Social Studies Teacher

New Leaf Academy is seeking a full-time experienced and enthusiastic Social Studies teacher.  The teacher will provide instruction to upper elementary through early high school students.  Position also includes teaching one period of math (Pre-Algebra).  Student population involves students with anxiety, depression, mood disorders, ADHD, trauma, learning challenges and other unique needs.  Students typically have difficulty regulating emotions and containing their behaviors. 

 

New Leaf Academy provides teachers with a small, collaborative, supportive teaching environment in which to express one’s creativity and interests.  The school has a population of between 25 and 30 students and employs an Academic Director, 4 full-time teachers, a part-time Special Education teacher and an Educational Assistant.  Class size generally ranges from 8-12 students.  If you like to work in a collaborative, team environment this is an ideal position. 

 

Candidate will need to provide feedback to students through timely grading of assignments, provide pertinent information regarding student progress, behavior and performance and manage student behavior in the classroom to ensure a safe environment conducive to learning.

 

Position is full-time, year-round, Monday-Friday and available to start immediately.  Salary commensurate on experience and includes benefits package and relocation bonus. 

 

Required Skills:

  • Valid Oregon teaching license with a social studies endorsement
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Willingness to teach math
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to collaborate with administration/clinicians/residential staff.
  • Experience aligning curriculum to standards
  • Ability to work with students with a wide range of abilities and learning styles

Cook

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparation and serving of nutritious, homemade meals and snacks for up to 30 people, accounting for a variety of dietary needs at each meal
  • Keeping all areas of the kitchen and dining hall clean
  • Ensure that all food preparation, storage and cleaning practices follow health department regulations
  • Supervise and support students while they are helping in the kitchen and ensure student safety
  • Develop and maintain positive, healthy relationships with students

 

Qualifications:

  • Current Oregon Food Handlers Card
  • Ability to pass background check
  • Experience preparing and cooking high quality, healthy food
  • Experience working in residential setting or cooking for 20+ people preferred
  • Experience working with youth preferred
  • Ability to supervise youth and hold appropriate boundaries
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Positive attitude and ability to be a team player
  • Working knowledge of kitchen equipment and nutritional standards

 

Position is part-time, approximately 27.5 hours/week, Tuesdays-Saturdays. Shifts are a combination of morning or evening shifts.

 

Residential Counselor (Houseparent)

Responsibilities include:

  • Overall supervision, care and guidance of the students in the home. 
  • Maintain a high level of safety while facilitating activities and tasks throughout the daily schedule.  
  • Guide students through their daily living routines while helping them to develop self-care skills.  
  • Build appropriate relationships with youth while maintaining healthy boundaries and implementing program rules and policies.
  • Overnight awake shifts (if applicable) include light cleaning and office duties in addition to student supervision.

Qualifications:

  • Candidate must have experience working with youth.
  • Experience working with youth with emotional and behavioral issues or challenges preferred. 
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to be a team player are required.  
  • Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • First Aid/CPR certified (or ability to get certified) 

 

Schedules:

Position 1 (full-time)

Wednesdays 10am-1pm (weekly staff meetings)

Thursdays 9:30pm – Fridays 8:45am (awake overnight)

Fridays 10pm – Saturdays 10am (awake overnight)

Saturdays 10pm – Sundays 10am (awake overnight)

Total hours/week: 38.25

*$750 bonus after 6 months in an overnight position

 

Position 2 (full-time)

Sundays 8am-4 or 6:30pm

Wednesdays 10am-1pm (weekly staff meetings)

Wednesdays 9:30pm – Thursdays 8:45am (awake overnight)

Saturdays 10am-10pm

Total hours/week: 34.25

 

Position 3 (part-time)

Mondays - Fridays 5:45-9am

Wednesdays include 10am-1pm (weekly staff meetings)

Total hours/week: 19.25

 

Position 4 (on-call/part-time)

No set schedule or guarantee of hours. A great option if looking to add in some additional work that works around your availability.

 

Hourly wage is $17-18/hour for daytime positions, $19/hour for overnight position. Opportunity for $0.75/hour hourly wage increase at 6 months of employment with development and training. Full-time positions include insurance and Paid time off benefits.
